I received my order of Wonderflex last week. First time I buy some in about a year. I use it to make masks (see www.greenmanmasks.com ). I started using the new sheets today and found that it is markedly different. Many of the characteristics of the Wonderflex I have come to love are gone. It doesn't shape and stretch like it used to, and has lost much of it's adhesive properties. To make it stick to my foil-covered face-form while shaping a mask was a major challenge.

It also seems that one needs to apply a LOT more heat to activate the material, resulting in burned fingers and much longer cooling and setting times.

I am quite disappointed...

Has anyone here experienced similar problems/adaptations since Dazian changed the formula on the Wonderflex?

I came out of the development and manufacturing side of these products and currently doing some marketing investigation as to potential distribution channels etc. in conjunction with Dazian Fabrics www.dazian.com
I created my "Amethyst Fairy" mask using an air-dry clay which is very light weight and incredibly durable. The wings are handmade as well and I used acrylic paints and shimmer powders to paint it:)
Please check it out and let me know what you all think.
I'll be taking better photos of the mask at a later date as these photos don't properly show the colors. In these photos the mask comes out looking more blueish when in IRL it is actually quite purple.

-I'm the model wearing the mask as well as the photographer:)

I don't usually like my work that much...or rather, I'm generally eager to be rid of my masks once I'm done with them...but I really like this one alot. I'd have to say that so far it is my favorite of all of my past and present masks.:) It turned out just as I had designed it...which is rare, actually.
I'm planning to wear this along with some matching Fairy wings, of my own making, to the King Richard's Faire here in MA next weekend.

In the Wiping Mask routine the actor applies cosmetic paint in a certain position on his face. If the whole face is to be changed, the cosmetic paint is applied to the forehead or eyebrows; for changes on the lower half of the face, paint is applied to his cheeks or nose; or to other specific parts.

The Blowing Mask routine works with powder cosmetics, such as gold, silver, and ink powders. Sometimes a tiny box is placed on the stage; the actor draws near and blows at the box. The powder will puff up and stick to the face. Sometimes the powder is put in a cup. The secret to success in this act is to close the eyes and mouth and to hold the breath.

The Pulling Mask routine is the most complicated. Masks are painted on pieces of damask, well cut, hung with a silk thread, and the lightly pasted to the face one by one. The silk thread is fastened in an inconspicuous part of the costume. With a flick of his cloak the performer magically whisks away the masks one by one as the drama develops.
temples and forested realms. Here masked beauties wait alongside water nymphs as strings set a tone of enchantment in the air.

Quick Notes from Strider:

As I finish up this missive to our beloved patrons and noble friends, the Sypher artists are buried in their preparations. The Elvish Water Temples and ancient forests are beginning to take shape as the glittering realms within our dreams begin to solidify. The the festivities approach so very quickly m'friends. This year our ambitions take us into the heart of Faerie, to the very boarders of the etheral trees and Oberon's Court. Baby dragons are learning to fly as nobles and faerie creatures dance. Time approaches and Sypher's Royal Court shall open its doors for a weekend of magic.

Well, time burns, promising only to burn out. Enjoy the world around you, each little detail you perceive are the brushstrokes of creation.
Upon solid soil we place these dreams and with our hands we shall forge them.

So far I've had the best luck with Model Magic...it's very light but as I made mine too thin it's not very strong. Live and learn..

I have a mask-making community on DeviantArt: http://Mask-Making-Artisans.deviantart.com and one of my members has used Craft Porcelain to make a VERY detailed mask which included small hand-sculpted clay feathers. I've asked some questions about this medium but have begun to feel as though I'm "stepping on their toes"..so I'm turning here for help.

I have a sculpted mask base which I use to cast my paper masks over top of, but now I'm using it for the air-dry clay. I've currently got a half-faced mask, created from the Craft Porcelain, drying on top of it. The clay hasn't adhered to itself as I thought it would. I warmed up the clay first by balling up small amounts in my hand and kneading it repeatedly before using it. To make the mask I added several pieces of the clay to eachother in sections...as it's drying some of the clay sections are coming apart...or 'peeling up'...not sure if it's supposed to do this or not...?

Any and all help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
-Thanks!:)

you are cordially invited to attend
the Cheshire Rock Opera
on the evening of 1-27-2007
this is an annual celebration of
Lewis Carroll, his works &
his effect on popular music.
please attend as one of the
characters from wonderland.
bring tea & cakes to share
& bottles marked "drink me".
a song book & album will be
available to interested parties.
those attending may be asked
for a modest donation:
$5 for those in costume & character
$10 for those simply in costume
& $20 for those who can't
be bothered to dress the part.
the event goes from around 8 untill...

first show was january 27 2004@ Van Kleef's in Oakland.
It was quite a production inluding the queen's concert,
tea party trio, suitcase puppet show of walrus & carpenter
and the jabberwock monstermasks. twas a mad evening
of fun.
the next was a one man show for an intimate audience
of close friends.
it's third year running was the mad tea party with a book
& c.d. to accompany.
the 4th year is set to be in co-operation with
the lucid dream lounge.
this is the culmination of a lifetimes connection to
the writings of Lewis Caroll,
here was my original Idea :I'ts a glam rock opera,
Spacey sci-fi, I like ziggy style, and kabuki japanese
cats, bunraku, noh theatre. this is a description of
a young lewis caroll, in some fanciful asian opium den,
being served and having the hallucination that he
watered down to create alice's adventures in
wonderland. focusing on the bestiary of "Jabberwok"
, the white rabbit, the tea party, and a god-like
presence of the cheshire (cat).
seeking performers, puppet craft, and hosts for
this would bee epic of psychedelic performance art.
follow thee white rabbit...
the set so far
red queen (an original)
white rabbit(+new verses)
the walrus & the carpenter (to music)
I am the walrus (mutant version)
the humpty dump (mix of humpty dance with parts
of eggman & the original poem)
jabberwocky(grunge version)
to all tomorrows parties
the inverse set also features some surprizes from
the collective of songwriters (the likes of the hobo gobbelins,
sourmash hug band & accordion plague)

ttp://Cheshire-rockopera.tribe.net

AT THE START OF THE SHOW:
white rabbit makes an appearance & then takes us
"through the rabbit hole". when we hit the bottom
a red queen appears: I'm bored to tears with the likes
of you! I declare that there shall be a concert to
amuse me & my royal court."
at this point a page begins calling forth the appointed
acts,
***still looking for quick cabaret style performances
(2-3 songs) which can work with a wonderland style

when it comes time for the hatter to sing,
he does so off key & tempo, so badly that the
queen shouts: "stop him! he's murdering time!!!"
and a guard roughly ejects the hatter from the "stage".
perhaps a bit of mumbling as the court complains
of the hatter's ruination of the concert.
focus shifts to the tea party set.
mad hatter: Oh bugger! they've broken my watch!
march hare: let me see that watch hatter.
(smears it with a thick layer of butter)
that should do the trick.
hatter: (shakes watch & listens) nope, it's still broken
now, we'll be stuck in tea time forever.
dormouse: play us a song hatter, to help us pass the time
hatter plays white rabbit....
One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all
Go ask Alice, when she's ten feet tall

/ F# - / G - / F# - / G - / A CD A - /

And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall
Tell 'em a hookah-smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call
Call Alice when she was just small

When the men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving low
Go ask Alice, I think she'll know

/ E - / A - / E - / A - / F# - - - /

When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's off with her head
Remember what the dormouse said
Feed your head, feed your head

/ F# - / G - / F# - / G - / A CD A - / E A E A /

at the conclusion of the song the dormouse says
"feed your head"
hare: what'd he say?
hatter: I don't know, I can't remember.
mouse: feed your head!
hatter: well then, what ever are we to feed it?
hare: I've got an idea, let's feed it treacol
alice: where ever shall we find treacol?
hatter: why, at the bottom of a well, of course
another cup of tea?
alice: but if we were to fall down the well,
however should we get back out again?
hare: we shan't be able to get out, we'd be
stuck down there for the rest of time with
nothing but treacol to eat, pass the crumpets
alice: but if the moon could only see
down in the well, I'm certain she...
mouse:...would be so sad that she would cry
an clouds blot out the starry sky
alice: fill the well up with the rain
so we could get back out again!
hatter:..and float down to a salty sea...
hare: where maybe we could look & see
hatter: a bite of something good to eat
hare: a tasty dish!
hatter & hare together: A FISHY TREAT!!
at this point a mock turtle comes in with
a taureen of hot green soup, followed by a
gryphon.
hatter: I say there, mock turtle what's that
you've got?
mock: it is a most beautiful soup! try some
(ladles some into tiny cups passing some to the party)
hatter:delicious!
as the band strikes up the beautiful soup song
the soup service continues.

Beautiful Soup
c g
Beautiful Soup, so rich and green,
c
Waiting in a hot tureen!
f c
Soup of the evening, beautiful Soup!
Beautiful, beautiful Soup!
Game, or any other dish?
c g
Who would not give all else for two
g c
Pennyworth only of Beautiful Soup?
g c
c g c
Beautiful, beauti--FUL SOUP!

at the end of the song,
hatter asks: I say, mock turtle, did you bring any
lobsters with you?
mock: no, (sadly) but they sent this message
(hands card to hatter)
hatter: (reading from card)
"dear sir
we thank you kindly for your invitation to the
cheshire rock opera, however we are already
engaged to attend the lobster quadrille.
best wishes,
the lobsters"
... ah, the lobster quadrille, what a lovely song
and dance!"
mock: (disagreeably) I always thought it was very sad
hatter: no, I assure you it is a delightful little tune,
listen to the way we play it.
(during the tune mock turtle moves to the dance floor
& a group of alices dance around and with her.
The Lobster Quadrille
interlude=g//f//a//d//x4
g f a d
"Will you walk a little faster?" said a whiting to a snail.
g f a
d
"There's a porpoise close behind us, and he's treading on my tail.
g f a d
See how eagerly the lobsters and the turtles all advance!
g f a
d
They are waiting on the shingle - will you come and join the dance?
d f d g d f
g f
Will you, won't you, will you, won't you, will you join the dance?
d f d g d f
d
Will you, won't you, will you, won't you, won't you join the dance?

g f a d
"You can really have no notion how delightful it will be
g f a
d
When they take us up and throw us, with the lobsters, out to sea!"
g f a
d
But the snail replied "Too far, too far!" and gave a look askance -
g f a
d
Said he thanked the whiting kindly, but he would not join the dance.
d f d g d
f d g
Would not, could not, would not, could not, would not join the dance.
d f d g d
f d
Would not, could not, would not, could not, could not join the dance.

d f d f d f d f
"What matters it how far we go?" his scaly friend replied.
d f d f d f d g
"There is another shore, you know, upon the other side.
d f d f d f d f
The further off from England the nearer is to France -
d f d f d f
d
Then turn not pale, beloved snail, but come and join the dance.
d f d g d f
d f
Will you, won't you, will you, won't you, will you join the dance?
d f d g d f
d
Will you, won't you, will you, won't you, won't you join the dance?"

at the end of the song, mock turtle returns to the
table, with a worried look on his face
mock: that's all well & good, but I don't really undestand
can you play it again?
hatter: but of course
instead they play "the voice of the lobster"
'Tis the Voice of the Lobster
Cm
'Tis the voice of the Lobster: I heard him declare
Fm
"You have baked me too brown, I must sugar my hair."
Cm
As a duck with its eyelids, so he with his nose
D G
Trims his belt and buttons, and turns out his toes.
Cm
When the sands are all dry, he is gay as a lark
Fm
And will talk in contemptuous tones of the Shark:
Cm
But, when the tide rises and sharks are around,
D G ~~~
His voice has a timid and tremulous sound.

I passed by his garden, and marked with one eye,
How the Owl and Panther were sharing a pie:
The Panther took pie-crust, and gravy and meat,
While the Owl had the dish as its share of the treat.
When the pie was all finished, the Owl as a boon,
Was kindly permitted to pocket the spoon:
While the Panther received knife and fork with a growl,
And concluded the banquet by--

on the last note of the song a tuft of feathers is
thrown in the air.
mock: I don't see what the point is of repeating
all this stuff over & over, if you aren't going to
take the time to explain it.
hatter: I tell you what, mock turtle, I've got a box here
which is sure to explain everything.
puts the box on the table & thus is the set up for
walrus & the carpenter
The Walrus and The Carpenter
Lewis Carroll
(from Through the Looking-Glass and
What Alice Found There, 1872)
the verses shall be noted as such
first verse noted is v1, & 2nd is v2
thus follows
Em Am
The sun was shining on the sea,
B7 Em
Shining with all his might:
Em Am
He did his very best to make
B7 Em
The billows smooth and bright--
B7 Em
And this was odd, because it was
B7 Em
The middle of the night.

The moon was shining sulkily,
Because she thought the sun
Had got no business to be there
After the day was done--
"It's very rude of him," she said,
"To come and spoil the fun!"
B7 Em
The sea was wet as wet could be,
B7 Em
The sands were dry as dry.
B7 Em
You could not see a cloud, because
B7 Em
No cloud was in the sky:
Em Am
No birds were flying overhead--
B7 Em
There were no birds to fly.
v1
The Walrus and the Carpenter
Were walking close at hand;
They wept like anything to see
Such quantities of sand:
"If this were only cleared away,"
They said, "it would be grand!"
v2
"If seven maids with seven mops
Swept it for half a year.
Do you suppose," the Walrus said,
"That they could get it clear?"
"I doubt it," said the Carpenter,
And shed a bitter tear.
v1
"O Oysters, come and walk with us!"
The Walrus did beseech.
"A pleasant walk, a pleasant talk,
Along the briny beach:
We cannot do with more than four,
To give a hand to each."
v2
The eldest Oyster looked at him,
But never a word he said:
The eldest Oyster winked his eye,
And shook his heavy head--
Meaning to say he did not choose
To leave the oyster-bed.
v1
But four young Oysters hurried up,
All eager for the treat:
Their coats were brushed, their faces washed,
Their shoes were clean and neat--
And this was odd, because, you know,
They hadn't any feet.
v2
Four other Oysters followed them,
And yet another four;
And thick and fast they came at last,
And more, and more, and more--
All hopping through the frothy waves,
And scrambling to the shore.
v1
The Walrus and the Carpenter
Walked on a mile or so,
And then they rested on a rock
Conveniently low:
And all the little Oysters stood
And waited in a row.
~~~~~~~
v1
"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:
Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--
Of cabbages--and kings--
And why the sea is boiling hot--
And whether pigs have wings."
~~~~~
v1 (or2)
"But wait a bit," the Oysters cried,
"Before we have our chat;
For some of us are out of breath,
And all of us are fat!"
"No hurry!" said the Carpenter.
They thanked him much for that.
v1
"A loaf of bread," the Walrus said,
"Is what we chiefly need:
Pepper and vinegar besides
Are very good indeed--
Now if you're ready, Oysters dear,
We can begin to feed."
v2 (or1)
"But not on us!" the Oysters cried,
Turning a little blue.
"After such kindness, that would be
A dismal thing to do!"
"The night is fine," the Walrus said.
"Do you admire the view?
v2 (or1)
"It was so kind of you to come!
And you are very nice!"
The Carpenter said nothing but
"Cut us another slice:
I wish you were not quite so deaf--
I've had to ask you twice!"
v2(or1)
"It seems a shame," the Walrus said,
"To play them such a trick,
After we've brought them out so far,
And made them trot so quick!"
The Carpenter said nothing but
"The butter's spread too thick!"
v2
"I weep for you," the Walrus said:
"I deeply sympathize."
With sobs and tears he sorted out
Those of the largest size,
Holding his pocket-handkerchief
Before his streaming eyes.
v1
"O Oysters," said the Carpenter,
"You've had a pleasant run!
Shall we be trotting home again?'
But answer came there none--
And this was scarcely odd, because
They'd eaten every one.

during the last verses of the song trays of hors devors
(smoked oyster on a slice of french bread with a dash
of pepper & vinegar) are passed around.

I Am the Walrus

I am he
As you are he
As you are me
at the end of the song humpty dumpty arrives.
& 1mb+ plays humpty song, during which the
jabber wocky creatures head off to get their masks on.
at the end of the song...

humpty: hello every body, since we've been
through the looking glass & back, I can tell before
we get there that you wont be able to understand
-I've never worked with alginate before... if you mix too much can it be preserved in an air-tight container for later use?

Same question with Plaster of Paris...I've got two boxes full of this stuff and have never used it before.
-Could I preserve wet plaster of paris in an air-tight container for later use?

Also, does anyone know if there's been a change in Plaster of Paris in the past 30+ years? I've got "The Prop Builder's Mask-Making Handbook" by Thurston James and he mentions using Plaster of Paris to make moulds and casts but mentions mixing it with your hands...the box clearly states not touch the plaster with your skin.
-Is this plaster still good to use for moulds and casts of inanimate objects?

Thank you!

I've been working with paper alot in my mask making lately and I really like it. While it's more time-consuming and labor intensive than my previous method, where I pretty much just decorated a pre-made plastic mask, I feel alot better about it as it's entirely hand-made from scratch...so to speak.

I've never tried this before, but I recently decided to sculpt a Goblin face out of air-drying clay in the hopes of using it as a base to over-cast my paper masks atop of.
-I made the mistake of building a thin layer of clay on top of a heavy-weight plastic mask...unfortunately that one fell to the floor and broke. Not to be deterred, I tried to rebuild it...well, due to the thin layer of clay and the fact that I didn't leave a damp rag over it to allow for slow drying, it cracked horribly and the whole project had to be trashed. I'm stubborn and really want a Goblin mask base to work with...
-So third time's the charm, right? I packed the backside of the mask full of clay, using a dry paper towel inbetween the clay and the mask as the release agent. When it came out it had a pretty good 3-D impression of the original mask, so from there I added on extra clay and got to work in trying to reform the lost Goblin mask.
Unfortunately, it's not turned out the same as the first or even the second attempt. But it's decent:)
-For photos of this project please check my blog as well as my photoalbum.

The mask has been drying pretty nicely and because the clay is built up so thickly I've not had to deal with cracking of any sort...and I've been keeping a damp rag over it for slow drying. I'm still tweaking the facial features here and there...hoping to get back some strong semblance of the first Goblin sculpt.

Once I'm finished I plan on casting this sculpt in plaster of paris and sealing it with either casting resin or just an acrylic sealant. I'm greatly looking forward to my first paper over-casting of this mold.

Before this Goblin I've never before sculpted in clay...other than some built up features here and there on other plastic masks for over-casting. I'm very proud of this project and am hoping that this project works out the way I'm hoping that it will.

I pretty much just wanted to share this project with other mask-makers/artists as well as to add to this tribe's topics board. If you'd like to post some advice or suggestions, I'd love to hear them:) Constructive criticism welcomed -but please be gentle!;D

Hello all. Sorry you have not heard from me in a bit but I have been out of it. I had food poisoning recently and was sicker than a zombie dog. I have never been that sick in my life!! At any rate we are shooting a scene this coming weekend in Las cruces for the farmhouse scene. If you remember this is the one where the daughter of the farmer does battle with the zombies and loses. This will also involove the zombie dog Chigger puppet.I am going to collect his fur today and he should be finished today or tommorow. I will also be doing the final storyboarding for the scene as well. I leave thursday the 30th for Las Cruces. The shooting however is on December 2 and 3. If you can make it, you will have to find a place to stay. I am staying with the farmers at the farmhouse. We have zombies down there already. Stephen Eckles willl be going down and staying in a hotel to help us out and to be a zombie. If you can make it, let me know now so that I know who will be crewing and I will also know how many zombies we have available. This is not short notice for it has been stated before and it is also on our Yahoo group calendar. What we need in Cruces is crew and zombies. Let me know. Well, I am off to go buy fur. Have a great day!

Sorry for the second post here, but I have alot of questions I can't seem to get answered anywhere else I've asked them.

Hair: I've been wanting to get some loose mohair/wool to attach to my mask as hair, but I'm not sure how to get it lay right on the forehead. I want it to look natural and lay properly. I'm wanting to create front bangs as well as hair coming down the sides of the forehead and around the ears, like a regular hairline. How best can I attach wool or fake hair to look natural? All I can think to do is to glue the hair/wool to the mask and then lay a band of fabric or ribbon over the 'roots' and then try to 'train' the hair to lay the way I want it. -But ideally I'd rather have it look like the 'roots' are coming out of the mask itself.

Books:
As I mentioned in my other post I've been experimenting with modeling facial features out of clay. I'm not experienced with this. I've looked online and in Amazon.com for books that have tips or even step-by-step tutorials on how to sculpt/mould a realistic face. How to line up the cheekbones and the lips for a woman vs. a man. How to sculpt certain expressions, the tools to use, etc.
So far I haven't found anything that looks like it's what I'm looking for.

-Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

I recently bought some air-drying modeling clay and unfortunately there isn't any info. on how long to let it sit before it's dry or how long it will last if only air-dryed. You can fire this clay in a kiln, too. And there is sufficient enough info. on kiln usage of this clay...but I don't want to fire it in a kiln.

My plan is to use this air-drying modeling clay to sculpt facial features and other designs over top of a plastic mask. Once it's dry I'll create my masks ontop of that using a glue and paper method.
Right now I'm just using non-drying modeling clay over a plastic mask and then covering that in seran wrap/plastic wrap before making my mask of paper and glue on top of it. I don't like using the seran wrap...it makes everything more difficult for me.

So, if anyone has used this before, how long do I let it sit for before it's completely dry and hard? How long does this hard clay last for? The box warned that the air-dried clay wouldn't be as long-lasting as the kiln-fired clay.

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.
-Thanks!!

Hello, I'm still pretty new to this community but have been making my own masks since late 1999. I recently decided to experiment with designing my own mask base to work off of. So I went out and bought a pre-manufactured, full-face, plastic mask and have just built up the facial features with clay. Moldeling with clay is new to me, so I'm very pleased with my first attempt at this. Photos of the plastic mask and my clay experiment can be found in my photos, if anyone is interested. Now, I'm wanting to make a plaster cast of this clay mask and then turn the cast into a mold with which to cast more clay masks from. From there I'm wanting to build masks atop the plaster cast using layered tissue paper and wallpaper paste.
-Keeping in mind that I've never worked with plast before, how best should I go about this? I'm concerned with the plaster shrinking as it dries once the cast is out of the mold. I've read of plaster shrinking. I'm thinking that there is no option aside from leaving the cast in the mold (a plaster cast inside of a plaster mold with vaseline as the release agent between the two) 'till it's completely dry. I don't want to have to break the mold to get the cast out. But I'm concerned about the cast shrinking while in the mold. -Has anyone had problems with something like this? I'm using plaster of paris, by the way. I've also read and been told that plaster of paris can and will heat up. -Does it generate enough heat to become a safety hazard?

Now...handles. I've been using wooden dowel rods for quite some time and they've worked well enough so far, but I've seen better looking handles on other people's masks. The ones I've seen I think are plastic, they have a spindle look to them, but I can't find anyone online who carries these and when I've contacted a mask maker about their handles, I get, "Sorry, can't help you." back in reply. -Very frusterating.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Any suggestions or help would be GREATLY appreciated!!
~Thank you~

I am working on a horror/monster mask. I was originally working with the idea that a latex prosthetic face would be easiest and fastest, but frankly I think a full head piece would look better (and it would be nice to keep the final piece).

I took an alginate cast of the actor's face and am using sculpting clay to add the details I want. I then plan on making a final mold (probably with alginate/plaster) and using liquid latex to make a prosthetic face. But I know I can make a whole head out of the foam mix stuff. But I've never used it before, and it's pretty expensive so I'm a little nervous.

What I am looking for advice on is:
1. Low cost foam mix
2. Casting a 3d head (I only have a face cast right now). Specifically, can I use the plaster face I have or do I need to recast?
3. Advice on foam masks in general (pros and cons)

So here's the deal...
I took a mask making class in Florence, Italy. The class was excellent and the city is amazing! Anyway, I've made my first mask since then but I'm missing the last ingredient of the last step – bees wax (I didn't take notes.. oops). Not just any bees wax.. we used a soft bees wax mixing it with a touch of tar for pigmentation to antique and seal our finished mask. The wax is soft enough to mix and just rub on with a soft cloth.

I've looked at all the art and hardware stores that I know and even on all the art, craft and furniture sites for supplies that I know of and found.

I've sent emails to my instructor in Italy but I've not heard back.

I've also tried some of the hard bees wax out there for batik and candle making but it doesn't work. Too hot, too fast drying and too yellow.

Any thoughts, ideas, sources would be most greatly appreciated!!

I have been using an iron on it over some plaster face forms and it is just barely melting it into a plastic like surface. A few darts and such and this will be a great base for flex glue/fabric masks!
I have made face and head casts for years now in order to make masks and headresses (some in my tribe pictures). For some reason I can't find cheap or large quantities of the gauze bandages with plaster already in them. What I did find cheap and buy yesterday was a tin of loose plaster for casting.
What I'm wondering is how I can best use this to do some face and head casts for Burning Man (yes, this is last minute...). We thought that perhaps we could get some thin plain fabric and run it through the wet plaster (once we mix it) just like paper mache. Or, is it possible to just cover your face in the plaster mix? I've never used the loose plaster before.

Thanks in advance,
