Does anyone know the construction techniques for traditional Tlingit transformation masks? These are the kind that typically depict and animal head that opens to reveal the shaman's face beneath. They are hinged and open with a pull string.
any leads are much appreciated

I actually went to school very close by the sculpture gardern where Davidson's "Three Variations on Killer Whale Myth" stands, so I had many a personal encounter with those three totems. iwww.robertdavidson.ca/sculptu...ons.html
I've always loved Native Alaskan art, having spent part of my early childhood there-- even though I'd be the first to admit that I do not understand the full significance.
