Polymer clay on masks..

topic posted Wed, January 10, 2007 - 2:25 AM by  Sphinx
Has anyone in here ever used polymer clay for small decorations on their masks before?
-I've been playing around with the idea, but haven't actually tried it yet. I make my masks out of paper and am not sure if it'd be better to mold the polymer clay accents on to the mask first and then put them both into the oven or if I should first bake the clay and then just glue it onto the mask...
I understand that you don't have to bake the polymer clay for very long if you are working with small pieces, which is a bit helpful.

Any advice or suggestions are greatly welcomed!
-Thank you!

I've used polymer on leather masks. I shape what I need, then apply with glue. Though I have used polymer on wooden frames, and just stuck the whole thing in the oven. I think baking the clay onto the mask would be fine. You may still need to glue it on, but you would get the right shape you need.

My masks are made entirely out of polomer clay. This allows them to be weather proof as our dance troop performs in all weather when at an out side venue. I have pics on my tribe site if you are interested in seeing them.

Sorry for the long delay in replying. Have recently moved about 1100 miles and was without internet for a little while there.

I've looked through your photos and your masks are just amazing!! Is the polymer clay lightweight and durable? How do they do when accidentally dropped?

      Your masks truly are gorgeous!:)
